MARRIAGE JUBILEE MASS. The Diocese is pleased to announce the annual Marriage Jubilee Mass to honor those couples in our Diocese who are observing significant wedding anniversaries. The Family Life Office sees this event as a wonderful opportunity for those couples who are newly married to come together and celebrate with couples who have truly lived the sacrament of matrimony. All married couples are welcomed to come together with their families for this event to be held on Sunday September 26th 2:30 p.m.at St. Mary’s Cathedral Ogdensburg, New York. Couples celebrating jubilees (eg 25,30,35,40,45,50) and wishing to receive a certificate need to register for this event through the parish before September 14th. Sign up sheets for the Marriage Jubilee Mass are available at the rectory.

WORLD YOUTH DAY 2011, MADRID, SPAIN: A group of young adults (age 18-35) from the Diocese of Ogdensburg will be joining Pope Benedict XVI and 2 million young Catholics from around the world atWorld Youth Day 2011, August 13-22, 2011 in Madrid, Spain. This will be a week of travel, prayer, music, and fun! Cost for the trip of $2,600 includes transportation, hotel and meals. There are a limited number of seats. Financial assistance is available. REDFORD PICNIC: The 155th Annual Redford Picnic will be held Sunday, August 15, on the grounds of the Church of the Assumption and the Parish Center. Activities start after the 10:30 Mass. Features include full meals of either roast beef or ham from noon to 6 pm, live entertainment, games of skill and chance, pull tabs, refreshments, and rides on the famous Merry-Go-Round. Raffles for $5,000, quilts/afghans, and handmade pack baskets.

RETREAT: OLA House of Prayer, Ellenburg Center will host a poustinia style retreat by Father Bob Wild of Madonna House, Combermere, Ontario. Father Bob has edited many of the books written by Catherine Dougherty on the spirituality of the poustinia. The retreat is on Saturday, August 21, 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m with anticipated Mass. FOUNDATION FOR CHILDREN IN NEED: Each year in July, through the Propagation of the Faith Office parishes take up a collection either for the Mission in Peru, South America, or a missonary organization. This year St. James Parish has been assigned the Foundation for Children in Need of India. FCN was founded by Tom Chitta and Geetha Yeruva in 2002. It provides help to the needy children, college students and elderly in the rural villages of India. At this time FCN is sponsoring nearly 2000 children and college students and 50 elderly. FCN has established several schools, a few boarding homes for boys and girls, St. Xavier’s home for the Aged, Sneha community health center and training for women serving the needy in rural areas of India. Tom and Geetha have been working in the villages in the State of Andhra Pradesh in South India. Tom Chitta will be here on the July 31-August 1 weekend to speak about FNC. A special envelope for this purpose is in your box of envelopes for this special collection. Please use it the weekend of July 31-August 1.

FUEL AND INSURANCE COLLECTION: Thanks to all who contributed last week to the special collection is to assist with the cost of Fuel and Fire/Liability Insurance on the St. James Parish buildings and property.

BLESSED BROTHER ANDRÉ TO BE DECLARED A SAINT: Blessed Brother André Bessette, C.S.C., will be canonized, or formally declared a saint, in a ceremony to be held Oct. 17th in Rome by Pope Benedict XVI. Blessed Brother André was a brother of the Congregation of Holy Cross, the religious order which founded the University of Notre Dame, and the founder of St. Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal in Montreal. HOUSE OF PRAYER RETREAT: Father Jack Downs, Raymondville, will discuss how prayer sustains us and overflows into all of our life and relationships. As part of the Mission Co-op program of the Diocese of Ogdensburg Tom Chitta will be here on the July 31-August 1 weekend to speak about FNC and to receive your gifts. A special envelope for July 25 is in your box of envelopes for this special collection.

FUEL AND INSURANCE COLLECTION: Next weekend there is a special collection to assist with the cost of Fuel and Fire/Liability Insurance on the St. James Parish buildings and property. An envelope for this purpose is in your packet of envelopes. Those without parish envelopes will find envelopes for this collection at the entrance to the church. BAPTISMS: Hannah Claire Thew, daughter of John and Danielle (Deno) Thew, and Faith Nicole Schmitt, daughter of Edward and Holly (Herron) Schmitt became members of the Catholic community through the Sacrament of Baptism.

SETON ACADEMY SUMMER CAMP: Again this year, Seton Academy will be offering an eight week summer camp which offers campers a fun, safe, and education experience. The activities planned include weeks that are full of exploration and hands on activities. Campers will be exposed to multiple activities as well as maintain the literacy skills that they acquire throughout the year. Plans include relaxation time, where campers are going to go to the beach as well as participate in fun games and water activities. For more information call the school office at 825-7386
