CONFIRMATION: This week Bishop Robert Cunningham, recently appointed Bishop of Syracuse, is our guest as he celebrates Mass with us and administers the sacrament of Confirmation to 17 young persons of our parish. Confirmation is one of the Sacraments of Initiation by which young persons become young adults in the Catholic Church. Along with the Holy Eucharist Confirmation builds on what was begun at Baptism and nourished in Holy Eucharist. It completes the process of initiation into the Catholic Church. At Confirmation, at the invitation of the Bishop, the young adult renews the promises made at Baptism by parents and godparents. This is called confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong. Those confirmed this week have participated in 2 years of religion classes and spiritual preparation. Each of them have chosen a Sponsor who has assisted them during these 2 years of preparation. They have also completed hours of public or community service. We thank them for their dedication to this preparation. We also thank their parents and sponsors, and Mr.Robert Robare who has assisted in this program. Those confirmed are:

CATHOLIC DIGEST: The Catholic Digest, which is a national Catholic publication has sent you copies of its May publication. It features a variety of articles of interest to Catholics and those interested in the Catholic Church. This issue of the Catholic Digest has a short story on St. James the Lesser (meaning younger) on page 88 celebrated on May 3rd. Jesus had two Apostles by the name of James. The other St. James has a feast celebrated on July 26th. While at times our parish has been called St. James Minor, the correct name under which it was incorporated in 1860 is St. James.

Mission Intention for April
That the Lord may bless farmers with abundant harvest and bring to the attention of richer populations the plight of hunger in the world.
CAMP GUGGENHEIM AND SPORTS CAMP: Brochures and application forms for Camp Guggenheim and SportsCamp are available at the entrance to the church or online at www.CatholicCamps.org or call 315-393-2920 ext. 411.
CATHOLIC HOME MISSION APPEAL: The Archdiocese of Anchorage has 11,500 registered Catholic families, 140,000 square miles, and only 30 active diocesan priests. Sadly, such shortages occur often in United States mission dioceses. The Catholic Home Missions Appeal supports religious education and seminary training to bring increased pastoral care to our home mission parishes. Please give generously in next week’s Appeal.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: I desire that Adoration take place for the intention of imploring Mercy for the world. (Words of Jesus to St. Faustina, Divine Mercy Diary, 1070). Eucharistic Adoration is held throughout the year every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 6 am to 9 pm at St. John’s Church Adoration Chapel, downstairs. DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY: From the diary of Saint Faustina Kowalska, an uneducated young Polish nun, a special devotion began spreading throughout the world in the 1930s. The message is nothing new, but is a reminder of what the Church has always taught through scripture and tradition: that God is merciful and forgiving and that we, too, must show mercy and forgiveness. But in the Divine Mercy devotion, the message takes on a powerful new focus, calling people to a deeper understanding that God’s love is unlimited and available to everyone — especially the greatest sinners. The message of mercy is that God loves us — all of us —no matter how great our sins. He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to
others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. It is a message we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC.
A — Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer repenting of our sins.
B — Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others.
C — Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust.

Mission Intention for April
FOR WOMEN IN THE WORLD: In every country may be respected and guaranteed equal social and political rights.
CATHOLIC HOME MISSION APPEAL: 2%...the percentage of Catholics in the population of the Diocese of Knoxville, Tennessee. Next Sunday’s second collection benefits the Home Missions. Home Missions in the United States are places where the Catholic Church struggles just to keep parishes open and to educate people in the faith. Please give generously to assist fellow Catholics here in America.
A SIMPLE PRAYER
May all that I am today,
all that I try to do today,
may all my encounters, reflections,
even the frustrations and failings
all place my life in your hands.
Lord, my life is in your hands.
please, let this day give you praise.
SPORTSCAMP, 2006: Sportscamp 2006, held at Wadhams Hall, Ogdensburg, is a great place where boys and girls ages 11-15 can blend quality sports with personal and spiritual growth. Sports are a reflection of life: winning and losing, competition and cooperation. The focus of Sportscamp is not only to help campers become better athletes, but also better people. Basketball is scheduled for July 9-13 and soccer is scheduled for July 16-20. Both camps fill quickly. Please phone (315) 393-2929 for your child’s application or contactl their web site at: www.youthministrycenter.org/Registartion
BIRTHRIGHT TRAINING: When you hear of someone who is pregnant and in difficulties, do you want to help her quietly in practical ways that respect the dignity and her baby’s life? Consider joining Birthright. Our training begins Saturday morning, May 6, 9am-1pm. Call Birthright: 563-4300
ATTENTION TEENAGERS: Spend a weekend that's packed with adventure, fun, faith and friends, at Camp Guggenheim! Don’t miss this chance for an incredible getaway that will give you an opportunity to catch some sun on the beach, take Adventure challenges as a group, plan and participate in awesome liturgies, create works of art, go kayaking, dance, and more! Dynamic, caring counselors design everything with you in mind. There are six one week sessions for young people ages 12-15 starting on July 2nd. One session for teens ages 16-18 on August 6th. Pick up an application in the back of the Church or phone 315-393-2929 for more information.
APPEAL SUNDAY: Today’s second collection is for the Catholic Home Missions Appeal. This Appeal supports the home missions – places right here in the United States where the Catholic Church struggles just to keep parishes open and to educate children in the faith. Some dioceses are terribly short of priests, sisters, and the money needed to run parishes. For example, there are only 70 priests in the whole state of Utah, 57 in Idaho, and 45 in Wyoming. The Catholic Home Missions Appeal helps build community within the Church and works for the common good of Catholics in the United States. Please give generously to help your fellow Catholics here in America.

THANKS: I am most appreciative to all parishioners who assisted in a variety of ways in making the Liturgy and prayers of Holy Week and Easter memorable for their spirituality, and transition from Lent to Easter, and those who contributed for the Easter flowers.
HOLY WATER AND HOME BLESSING FOR EASTER: The Easter water blessed at the Easter Vigil service is available to you to bring home in small bottles you will find near the Holy Water container. Gather your family together and use this Easter water to sprinkle each room of your home after praying the following prayer: Lord, we rejoice in the victory of your Son over death: by rising from the tomb to new life he gives us new hope and promise. Bless all the members of this household and surround them with your protection, that they may find comfort and peace in Jesus Christ, the paschal lamb, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. AMEN
EASTER SUNDAY: Today, we celebrate the most glorious day of the church, the resurrection of Jesus Christ as he had promised. Take a few minutes today to think of that morning mentioned in today's Gospel reading from John. It is quiet and dark, shortly before the first few rays of the sun are visible. The sealed tomb is no longer sealed, the massive stone having been rolled away from the entrance despite the presence of a guard. Peter and John, who ran from Jesus at his arrest, now run to find him again. Seeing his burial cloths removed, they believe. The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us that in his dying and resurrection, Jesus has opened heaven to all who would believe in him with unwavering faith. All too often, we hold the pains and sins of our lives like a stone, placed firmly in front of our minds and our hearts so that we cannot see the love of Christ which lives in us. Even though we've put the stone there, we cannot remove it by ourselves. At some point, we need only to ask the one who removed the stone 2,000 years ago, and he will move ours as well.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: During this Easter season I encourage all of you to discover ever more fully in the Eucharist, the sacrament of Christ’s sacrificial love.(Pope Benedict XVI, April 20, 2007). Eucharistic Adoration is held throughout the year every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 6 am to 9 pm at St. John’s Church Adoration Chapel, downstairs. BISHOP CUNNINGHAM EASTER MESSAGE
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: In fact, Christ has been raised from the dead . To our contemporary ears, these words of St. Paul sound basic, obvious, even commonplace. But in this passage from St. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians we have the world’s oldest written account of the Resurrection. So it was that, for the people of Corinth, these words were not basic or obvious but new, exciting, and life-changing. They were words of hope.
This year our world in general and the Diocese of Ogdensburg in particular need hope. During the Year of St. Paul we have faced many challenges—many crosses. We have experienced sickness, death, and depression. The challenges of the fiscal crisis have affected both international agencies and family dinner tables. And none of us is able to say that we are unaffected by experiences of sin. In short, we have known the Cross. So we turn to our faith—faith that whenever I am weak, then I am strong; faith that the cross is not the end; faith that through Christ we are offered new life. This Easter we discover what the Corinthians learned so many years ago: that in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. May the eternal newness of the Gospel and the hope that comes from the cross, death, and resurrection of our Lord fill you and all those you love with joy and peace this Easter.
Cordially yours in Christ,
Alleluia! He is Risen!
