CONGRATULATIONS SISTER HELEN! As you may have read in the Press Republican last week, a familiar face was recently named as the new Principal for Seton Academy, Sister Helen Hermann, SSJ. Sister Helen will be replacing Sister Brian M. Latour, RSM who is retiring at the end of this current academic year after a lifetime of dedication to Catholic education. Sister Helen has taught on the Seton faculty since its opening in September of 2006, and brings to her new role at Seton a lifelong commitment to elementary education with over 20 years of experience as a Catholic school principal in the North Country. We wish her all the best in her new role as principal, and offer her our prayers as she continues the work of making Seton Academy a Catholic School that educates the whole person in a disciplined and caring environment. Seton Academy is St. James Parish Catholic Elementary School.

PENTECOST SUNDAY: The final act of the New Covenant is the gift of the
Holy Spirit, who is described as "Advocate" and "Spirit of truth." Jesus tells us in today's Gospel reading from John that all that God has given him will now be given to us. In this sense, the truth that we are given is the one truth which cannot be denied, and that is that the only path to the kingdom of heaven and the saving grace of our Lord is through true, unfaltering belief and love in Jesus Christ. And that truth is not to be kept to ourselves but joyfully shared with others without fear or doubt. It is up to us. On the day of Pentecost, the church was given to the world through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. The gift of the Spirit ushers in a new era in the dispensation of the mystery, the age of the Church, during which Christ manifests, makes present, and communicates his work of salvation through the liturgy of his Church. From a tiny spark 2,000 years ago, the church has blazed forth like a raging fire throughout the world. Each and every one of us who believes has been given a part in this celebration, a gift we cannot deny.

ST. JAMES CEMETERY: Catholic cemeteries are set apart from other cemeteries, for they are part of the ministry of the Church. A Catholic cemetery seeks to help families face the hard reality of death in a context of faith in the promise of eternal life. Our facilities and services include a place to be buried, an environment designed to meet the needs of the Catholic liturgy for burial, a facility which encourages frequent visitation with attendant prayer for the dead, an environment in which love is remembered, hope is rekindled, and faith is awakened and strengthened. St. James Cemetery Regulations are provided in order to maintain the beauty of the cemetery and in respect for those buried. Shrubs and trees may not be planted in the cemetery. Only one urn will be allowed per lot. It must be placed in such a way as not to interfere with lawn moving. Artificial decorations, flowers, statues, glass jars, tin cans, glass flower bricks and so forth are not allowed in the cemetery. If these are placed on a lot they will be removed. Cut flowers and flower arrangements permitted for Memorial Day are to have been removed by June 3rd. Small American flags placed on graves of veterans for Memorial Day must also have been removed by June 3rd.
SUMMARY OF VETERANS BURIED IN ST. JAMES CEMETERY:

66 in World War II (1939-1945)

PRAYER ON VISITING THE CEMETERY: If you are offering the prayer for a particular person, you can substitute "him" or "her" for "them." Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

MOTHERS DAY - GETTING BACK TO THE ROOTS: On Mothers’ Day we give thanks for our Mothers and all women of the world who have joined with God in the wonder of bringing forth new life. In the original spirit of Mother’s Day and with the example of our heavenly Mother in mind, here are some suggestions for getting back to the roots of this holiday:
Call your mom just to say “I love you,”even if you talk to her or see her on a regular basis.
If your mom has passed away, honor her by fixing one of her favorite recipes or telling a favorite story about her.
Give the gift of time. Rather than waiting for Mother’s Day as the day to start planting flowers in her garden, suggest that, as her gift, you will help her plant flowers in her garden together. Make it a tradition that you both look forward to and cherish.
Don’t forget the other 364 days a year.
The following prayer is one offered to us by one of our mothers:
The demands on my time, attention, and energy draw me in many directions, Lord. Yet, without you I can do nothing, and with you all things are possible. Enlighten my mind to discern rightly what is essential. Guide me to evaluate all things with the eyes of faith. Help me to reserve a place in the busyness of each day to be renewed and strengthened, to thank you for your gifts and listen to your voice. O Beloved Lord and Maker of all souls, who desires that I should come to you, draw me by your grace to desire to love you more. Amen.
