Mission Intention for September
That by opening our hearts in love, we put an end to the numerous wars and conflicts that continue to bloody our world.

CatholicTV has been asked to ‘prove’ the demand for Catholic television before a distribution contract can be signed. We are asking for your help in spreading the word through one or all of the following steps: Visitwww.CatholicTVEverywhere.com to sign the petition.

PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT SCHOOLS: Recently Sister Mary Helen Hermann, Principal of Seton Academy sent information regarding some stores that help customers give financial help to schools. BISHOP’S FUND APPEAL: As we begin the Commitment Weekend for the 2010 Bishop’s Fund Appeal, it is our hope that we can match the success of last year’s appeal. The goal for St. James Parish is $7,223. Last year 113 families from the parish participated and contributed $7,445. Please prayerfully consider supporting the many programs of the Diocese funded by the Bishop’s Fund. Thank you in advance for your support. Many of you have receieved letters and envelopes by mail from the Bishop’s Fund. Envelopes are also available at the entrance to the church. Checks should be made out to the Bishop’s Fund and not to St. James Parish..

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION: Registration forms for St. James Parish Religious Education Program are available at the entrance to the Church. Parents are requested to pick up a form for eachchild in Grades 1-5. Complete the form and place it in the box designated for this purpose at the entrance to the Church. BROTHER ANDRÉ - A FRIEND. A BROTHER. A SAINT: On October 17 Brother André Bessette will become a saint of the Catholic Church in Rome through his canonization by Pope Benedict XVI. Canonization is an act by which the Pope places the name of a deceased person among the Saints, thereby authorizing devotion to the saint throughout the Universal Church. It is a process by which the Catholic Church recognizes the sanctity of a deceased person and includes his or her name in the liturgical calendar, proposing devotion to this individual by believers throughout the world. (This is the first of information on Brother André which will appear here in the next few weeks.)

A SALUTE TO TEACHERS: Jesus was a rabbi. The title rabbi means teacher. This month, we salute all educators-- from kindergarten teachers to university professors. Teachers, by their nature, tend to be generous people. After all, they are willing to share what they know. And remember this: In life, we are all teachers, just as we are all students.

ADVICE FROM ST. FRANCIS: Start by doing what is necessary, then do what is possible, and suddenly you are doing what is impossible

LABOR DAY: We celebrate Labor Day on Monday. Labor Day is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. Oregon was the first state to pass a law making Labor Day a legal holiday. Take time to enjoy the privilege of working. If we approach our work with the proper spirit, our jobs will leave us not drained of energy, but rather satisfied. Even sanctified.
