Mission Intention for August: That World Youth Day in Madrid may encourage young people throughout the world to have their lives rooted and built up in Christ.

MARRIAGE TIP: Happiness is about more than laughter, but laughter heals and bonds. Laugh together today. Watch a funny TV program or movie, tell each other a silly joke, play a practical joke that won’t backfire, or reminisce about the crazy things you’ve done during your life together. Find more Marriage Rx at www.foryourmarriage.org.

WE VALUE THE GIFT OF LIFE – TWENTY-FOUR WEEKS AFTER CONCEPTION: Hello Spiritual Friends, it has been twenty-four weeks since my conception. I weigh about two pounds and I am about 9 1/4 inches long. During this week, my eyelids reopened and I developed a blink/startle reaction to loud noises. I can do summersaults using step like motions with my feet, too. Please continue to pray for my life and my mom’s well being. May the Lord bless you from Zion, all the days of your life that you may share Jerusalem’s joy and live to see your children’s children. (Psalm 128:5-6)

THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION: Monday, August 15, is the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is not a holy day of obligation in the United States this year. Mass of the Assumption will be at 8:30 AM.

MARRIAGE JUBILEE CELEBRATION: The annual Marriage Jubilee Mass to honor those couples in our Diocese who are observing significant wedding anniversaries will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ogdensburg on Sunday, September 25 at 2:30 PM. Couples celebrating jubilees and wishing to attend and to receive a certificate need to register for this event through St. James Parish before September 13th.

THE ROMAN MISSAL, THIRD EDITION, The Entrance
The Entrance Psalm or Chant is like a door opening onto the Mystery. It begins as the priest and other ministers enter the church with the people standing. The Entrance Chant sets the celebration of Mass in motion; it fosters unity; it expresses something of the feast or season being celebrated. The Entrance Chant accompanies the procession of the priest and ministers into the sanctuary and ends when the priest arrives at the chair. The choice of the Entrance Chant is determined by the General Instruction of the Roman Missal. It may be the antiphon and psalm given in one of three official liturgical books: the Roman Gradual, the Roman Missal, or the Simple Gradual. The Entrance Chant may also be an antiphon and psalm from another source, or even a suitable liturgical song. Apart from a very few exceptions, the Entrance Chants of the Mass are drawn from the Bible, usually from the Book of Psalms. It is significant that Mass opens with God’s word addressed to us. We stand at the Entrance Chant to welcome God who comes out to meet us.

Mission Intention for July: That Christ may ease the physical and spiritual sufferings of those who are sick with AIDS, especially in the poorest countries.

MARRIAGE TIP: “Do not be wise in your own estimation” (Romans 12:16). A rule of thumb in marriage or parenting is to be careful what you take credit for lest you also be willing to take the blame. Often success is earned but sometimes it’s just good luck or good genes. Be humble today.Find more Marriage Rx at www.foryourmarriage.org.

FORMATION FOR MINISTRY: Formation For Ministry is now recruiting candidates for the 2011 – 2013 formation classes. If you feel compelled to serve more deeply in your parish’s ministries, take a few minutes to speak with your pastor about the possibility of entering the Formation For Ministryprogram. The two year adult formation process offers participant an opportunity to grow in knowledge, faith and spirituality through weekly classes, annual retreats and ministry workshops.

SPECIAL COLLECTION: SPECIAL COLLECTION: The increased cost of gasoline and heating fuel has place difficulty on all of you. As you are very well aware from all indications the cost will not decrease in the months and year to come. This increased cost affects your home as well as our parish. Your contribution to the special collection this weekend will assist your parish with the costs of heating the parish buildings. A special envelope for this purpose is in your packet of envelopes.

WE VALUE THE GIFT OF LIFE TWENTY-ONE WEEKS AFTER CONCEPTION Hello Spiritual Friends, thank you so much for your concern about my life and my mother’s well being. My lungs will continue to develop and there will be an increase in connections in my brain, but no new parts or body systems need to develop from this point on. I will just be growing and gaining weight, until I am born. I am truly a little wonder and an amazing creation of God. Though I walk in the midst of dangers, you guard my life when my enemies rage. You stretch out your hand; your right hand saves me. (Psalm 138:7)

THE ROMAN MISSAL, THIRD EDITION, CHANT AND SACRED MUSIC:
The Church sings because she loves. All the liturgical traditions of the Church have developed forms of chant for the praise of God, the proclamation of the Word, and prayer. Chant is language clothed in the vesture of melody. Chant is born of the word; it elevates the spoken discourse and adapts it to the sacredness of the liturgy. In any Mass, the first things to be sung are the acclamations and simple dialogues. Priests are responsible for knowing how to sing the parts of the Mass that belong to them. To the people belong, first of all, the unchanging parts easily learned by heart and sung from memory. The Roman Liturgy gives pride of place to Gregorian Chant; other forms of song also have their place, provided that they express in melody the truth of the Mystery that is celebrated in the Liturgy. .Apart from the chants of the Mass itself, there is room for polyphony and other types of sacred music. The organ, an instrument capable of expressing everything from majestic jubilation to humble recollection, holds an esteemed place in our heritage.
