BISHOPS FUND APPEAL: The Bishop’s Fund Appeal provides us the opportunity to share our blessings with others as we continually serve those who most need our help throughout the Diocese of Ogdensburg. We have great hope that together we will be successful in 2014. Please respond as generously as possible when you receive your request from Bishop LaValley asking for your support of this year’s Appeal.

21ST Sunday in Ordinary Time: How do you recognize Jesus? Jesus asks his disciples who the people think that he is; remember that the people had been awaiting a kingly savior, so this very common, ordinary man was thought to be Elijah, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. They had not seen him or met him, and even then might not have been convinced. But Peter, speaking from the heart, recognized him as "the Christ, the Son of the living God." The physical characteristics of the Son of Man should have little or no matter in our lives today; what is important is to remember that we are taught that Jesus Christ is the light of all humanity, a light that shines so brightly for all the world to see that we have no trouble distinguishing it as anything else. Like Peter, look to your heart for the loving light, and boldly share it with the world to the best of your abilities.

MARRIAGE TIP: Did you know that physiologically it takes 20 minutes to calm down after getting upset?  Time outs give your spouse a chance to “re-set” and be their true, better self.. Find more Marriage Rx at www.foryourmarriage.org.

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time: We meet the Lord in the strangest places.  Elijah spent the night listening to he wind, feeling the earthquake and surrounded with fire, but the Lord was not in any of these.  He came in a gentle breeze.  We would like great events for meeting our God, but most often we stirs our hearts and minds very gently.  If we listen, we encounter the Lord.  Like Peter, we walk toward the Lord.  The Lord says, “Come!” We respond: “Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus, and sustain our faith.”

THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION: Friday, August 15, is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  It is a holy day of obligation.  Mass of the Assumption will be on Friday at 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM.

MARRIAGE TIP: Since before Cinderella, stepparents have had a bad rap.  Stepparents can play a precarious role, trying to love as a true parent but sometimes experiencing difficulties and unsure of their job.  If you have a stepchild, pray, listen and wait to be accepted.  If you don’t have a stepchild, pray for those in step relationships  Find more Marriage Rx at www.foryourmarriage.org.
