Bulletin for the week of October 31, 2010

Mission Intention for November
That the victims of addiction may, thanks to the support of the Christian community, find in the power of our Saving God strength to recover.

PLANNING FOR DEATH IS NATURAL: Planning for death is as natural for the Christian as planning for life. As stated in 1 Timothy 5:8, if anyone does not take care of his own, and especially of his household; he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. Having a Will is good Stewardship. Take care of your family.

CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS YOU: Valerie Matthews, Director of the Bishop’s Fund of the Diocese of Ogdensburg sent a letter this week indicating that the parishioners of St. James Parish had given $7,375 to the 2010-11 Bishop’s Fund which surpasses the parish goal of $7,223.

BAPTISMS: Mateo James, son of James and Nancy (Ramirez) Crouse, and Dominick Rocco, son ofRobert Rocco and Megan Marie (Rabideau) Crouse, became members of the Catholic community through the Sacrament of Baptism on October 24th.

CATHOLIC CALENDARS: Calendars for 2011 indicating the special holy days and saints of the Catholic Church are available for your home or workplace. This year they are on the theme of Christian stewardship.
HARVEST MASS OF THANKSGIVING: Continuing an event celebrated annually in the North Country, Bishop Terry R. LaValley extends his invitation to all North Country farmers and their co-workers to take part in the Harvest Mass of Thanksgiving. It will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru on Sunday, 7 November, at 1:00 p.m. The Church in the North Country will give God thanks for His blessings manifested in the products of our farms, and pray for God’s blessing on North Country farmers and their labors.

PRIESTHOOD: Sunday, October 31st is "Priesthood Sunday." As usual, we will be showing our appreciation for our pastor. Please join us at our Parish Center after the 10:00 o'clock Mass for a continental breakfast to honor Father Deno. Please mark your calendar.

SAVE THE DATE: Seton Academy & Seton Catholic will be holding their fifth annual Christmas Dinner/Silent Auction December 5 from 12-5 PM. If you are interesting in getting involved in the planning, meetings will be Nov 10th & 17th at 6:00 PM at Seton Catholic High School. You can also participate by donating items for our Silent Auction or home made gifts. Take outs available. For more information call Stacie Chapman at 643-7918 or go to www.setoncatholic.net

IN MEMORY OF OUR DEPARTED FAMILY: The Catholic Church invites us in the month of November to remember all those who have died. Death is the end of our earthly journey. We are told by Jesus, however, that when we have finished the work given to us to do on earth, we will be taken to an everlasting life in heaven. The Church encourages us to prepare ourselves for that hour of death by prayer and by living out our faith the best we can. Mary, our Blessed Mother, gave us her prayer, the Hail Mary, in which she mentions she will be with us at the hour of death. Let us pray daily to her and to St. Joseph, the Patron Saint of a happy death, to free us from any fear of death. During this month let us remember especially those who were called by death to their everlasting life since last November including those whose funeral and/or burial was in this parish.

MARRIAGE TIP: Sometimes the main difference between a happy marriage and a troubled one is preserving an attitude of “goodwill” when one makes a mistake. How does one build goodwill? By constantly looking for the good rather than the fault and creating a “bank account” of positive experiences. Find more Marriage Rx at www.foryourmarriage.org.

Bulletin for the week of October 17, 2010

Mission Intention for October
That Catholic universities may be places where it is possible to experience the harmonious unity that exists between faith and reason in the light of the Gospel.

WORLD MISSIONS :United with the Catholics of the world at the Table of the Lord, we recommit ourselves to our vocation, through Baptism, to be missionaries. Our prayers and Eucharistic celebration next Sunday are directed in a special way toward our brothers and sisters throughout the world who are waiting to hear the joyous “Good News” of Jesus. Our offerings, through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, will support the work and witness of those who selflessly give up all for the sake of our Lord and His Gospel — the local priests, Religious, and lay catechists who daily provide loving service to the poor and suffering of the Developing World.

PRIESTHOOD: October 31st is "Priesthood Sunday." As usual, we will be showing our appreiation for our pastor. Please join us at our Parish Center after the 10:00 o'clock Mass for a continental breakfast to honor Father Deno. Please mark your calendar.

HOLY DAYS OF OBLIGATION: Catholics in the United States have received permission to waive the requirement for Catholics to attend Mass on certain Holy Days of Obligation, when those Holy Days fall on either Saturday or Monday. All Saints Day is a Holy Day of Obligation. However, when it falls on a Saturday or a Monday, as it does this year, Catholics are not required attend Mass. Even in those years when we aren't required to attend, celebrating All Saints Day is a wonderful way to honor the saints, who constantly intercede with God for us. The Ascension of our Lord (40 days after Easter), Immaculate Conception (December 8th), and Christmas (December 25th) are always holydays of obligation no matter on what day of the week they fall.
