BISHOP’S FUND APPEAL: The Bishop’s Fund Appeal provides us the opportunity to share our blessings with others as we continually serve those who most need our help throughout the Diocese of Ogdensburg. We have great hope that together we will be successful in 2013. Please respond as generously as possible when you receive your request from Bishop LaValley asking for your support of this year’s Appeal.
BIRTHRIGHT VOLUNTEER TRAINING: Live your life to the full as a Birthright volunteer. Help others accept the gift of life. Training begins in September. Call Birthright 563-4300 or Sally Fisher 534-3577.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION GRADES 1-5: Registration forms for St. James Parish Religious Education Program are available at the entrance to the Church. Parents are requested to pick up a form for each child in Grades 1-5. Complete the form and place it in the box designated for this purpose at the entrance to the Church. Include with the form a book fee of $20. Parents of these children must be registered members of St. James Parish. The Religious Education classes begin on Thursday, October 3rd
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION GRADES 6-7: Parents of children in Grades 6-7 will meet in St. James Parish Center on Sunday, September 29 at 2:00 pm.
CONFIRMATION PREPARATION: Two Year Confirmation preparation classes for will begin on Sunday, October 6th at 6:00.
LABOR DAY CELEBRATION:The annual Labor Day Celebration at Holy Name Church, AuSable Forks, kicks off at 10am on Monday, September 2nd with a parade and continues throughout the day with lots of food, games and fellowship.

MARRIAGE JUBILEE MASS: The annual Marriage Jubilee Mass to honor those couples in our Diocese who are observing significant wedding anniversaries will be celebrated by Bishop LaValley on Sunday, September 15th at 2:30 PM at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ogdensburg. All married couples are welcomed to come together with their families for this event.
PICTURE IT...CATHOLICISM! The Diocese of Ogdensburg is providing Catholics and opportunity to celebrate the Year of Faith through a photography contest. The contest is open to participants from kindergarten through adult. The work must be in one of the categories: color, black and white, or computer manipulated. Applicants who are under the age of 18 must submit a Minor Release Form. The photographic work must be submitted either on a CD or uploaded to an e-mail. Entries must be in line with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Photographic work must be submitted no later than October 11, 2013. Photographic entry form and rules can be obtained through the Parish Office or contact Donna Smith at 521-7256.

FUNERAL: A funeral was celebrated August 3rd for Earl “Maxie” Winch. Please remember him and his family in your prayers.
ASSUMPTION OF THE VIRGIN MARY: Thursday, August 15th is the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary . Masses will be at 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. The Catechism of the Catholic Church refers to Mary’s Assumption as follows: The Most Blessed Virgin Mary, when the course of her earthly life was completed, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven, where she already shares in the glory of her Son’s Resurrection, anticipating the resurrection of all members of his Body. Mary formed and gave us the body of Christ her son so that he could daily give himself to us in Eucharist.
Retreat and Celebration Day, Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer, 7270 Star Road, Ellenburg Center will hold a retreat and celebration day on Saturday, August 24, 10 a.m.-2 p.m with Bishop Terry LaValley who will preside at Mass and Fr. FORMATION FOR MINISTRY: Formation for Ministry is seeking applicants for next year’s classes beginning September 2013 in Morrisonville. We invite and encourage you to enrich your talents to serve as a commissioned lay minister or to begin your preparation to become a permanent Deacon. BEAUTY OF BELIEF: What do a Bach concerto and the Sistine Chapel have in common? They all give us a taste of Beauty. To showcase the Beauty of the North Country Bishop LaValley and the Diocese of Ogdensburg is hosting artists and musicians for a celebration of Art and Music on Sunday, August 18th at SUNY Potsdam’s Hosmer Hall and Gallery. The event will feature musicians sharing high quality vocal and instrumental pieces that are sacred and spiritually influenced as well as artists sharing the beauty of faith through visual art. Doors to the gallery entrance will open at 3pm to view the visual art and the concert will begin at 4pm. Everyone is welcome.

SETON CATHOLIC CENTRAL SCHOOL: Good news from Seton Catholic! The school has recently hired a new full time art and a new full time music teacher. Both are New York State certified with masters degrees in their areas. In the fall, Seton will begin to offer instrumental lessons within the school day. If anyone has any musical instruments they would be willing to donate to get the program going, the school would greatly appreciate it. Please contact the school at 561-4031.
REDFORD PICNIC: The 158th Annual Redford Picnic will be held Sunday, August 18, on the grounds of the Church of the Assumption and the Parish Center. Activities start after the 10:30 Mass. Features include full meals of either roast beef or ham from noon to 6 pm, fried dough, live entertainment, games of skill and chance, pull tabs, refreshments, and rides on the famous Merry-Go-Round. Raffles for $5,000, afghans, and handmade pack baskets.

RALLY TO PROTECT OUR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM AND VALUES: The Knights of Columbus of the North Country invite Catholics to participate in an August 11th Prayer Rally. Responding to the Bishops of our nation, Catholics from parishes throughout the Diocese of Ogdensburg will unite in prayer at St. Mary’s Cathedral on Sunday, August 11th to witness the significant role we play in our society. The rally will begin at 2 PM outside St. Mary’s Cathedral at the Monument to the Unborn. Following brief remarks, participants will proceed inside the Cathedral for recitation of the rosary.
