Mission Intention for March
That the nations of Latin America may walk in fidelity to the Gospel and progress in justice and peace.
HOW MUCH TIME DOES GOD GET? God has blessed each of us with 1,440 minutes in every day and 10,080 minutes in every week. How many of those minutes do we give back to God each week? Studies show that the majority of our time goes to sleeping, working and watching TV. In fact, typically over 1,000 minutes a week or about 10% of our times goes to watching TV. In contrast, how much time does God get? Typically, less than 100 minutes or less than 1% of our time is devoted to spiritual activities like prayer and worship. How can you give God a little more of your time? Consider Mass attendance, prayer, spiritual reading, Eucharistic adoration or volunteering.

WE VALUE THE GIFT OF LIFE - TWO WEEKS AFTER CONCEPTION
Dear Spiritual Friends, my life started two weeks ago at my conception and wonderful developments are taking place. The placenta is starting to form (that’s what keeps me growing and healthy…) and so are the cells that make up my organs, nervous system, skeleton, connective tissue and most muscles. I am about two and a half times bigger than I was a week ago and growing fast! Thus, says the Lord, your redeemer, who formed you from the womb, I am the Lord, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens…” (Isaiah 44:24)

“GIVING UP SOMETHING” “What would help me grow in freedom?” That's the question to ask. For many of us, the choice may not be to give something up, but to add something to our daily lives during Lent. We may commit ourselves to extra prayer time, to making the Stations of the Cross, or helping out when needed. The whole desire we should have is to use these means to help us grow closer to our Lord and prepare ourselves to truly celebrate Easter. Pick up a copy of What Am I Doing for Lent This Year? A Workbook that presents Lent as an opportunity for renewal (at entrance to the church)

VOCATIONS PRAYER
Gracious and loving God, help the men and women of St. James Parish
to hear the call to serve in the Diocese of Ogdensburg. Our needs are great and our people thirst for your presence. Open the hearts of many, raise up
faithful servants of the Gospel, dedicated, holy priests, sisters, brothers and deacons, who will spend themselves for your people and their needs. Bless those who are serving now with courage and perseverance. Grant that many will be inspired by their example and faith. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

MARRIAGE TIP: But it’s not fair! I got up the last time Junior wet the bed. I drove carpool last week, it’s your turn. A covenant marriage means that it’s not always going to be fair and even – but don’t take advantage of your spouse. Is anything in your marriage unfair?. WE VALUE THE GIFT OF LIFE - ONE WEEK AFTER CONCEPTION: Dear Spiritual Friends, my life started one week ago at my conception, but so many amazing changes are happening. During this week, the cells that form one of the structures through which my mother supplies me with food started to develop. Also, the cells that form the amnion are growing. I will stay inside the amnion until I am born. I too am a mortal like everyone else, and a descendant of the first man formed from the earth. I was molded into flesh inside a mother’s womb. (Wisdom 7:1)

VALENTINE’S DAY: St. Valentine was a Roman priest. He was sent to prison because he helped Christians being persecuted by the Roman ruler. While in prison he converted 46 members of his guards family to Christianity. Upon discovering this the Roman ruler sentenced him to death. In Medieval England, it was commonly held that birds chose their mates on the feast of St. Valentine. As this date approached, a young woman sent a letter assuring her suitor that if he could be content with her small dowry, I would be the merriest maiden on the ground, a good, true and loving Valentine. Ever since, similar hopes have been in the minds and on the lips of countless lovers.

MARRIAGE TIP: What kind of home did you grow up in cleanliness-wise? Neat and clean? Comfortably cluttered? Chaotic? Your experiences growing up can shape what you think is right and proper in your marriage. If you and your spouse have different cleanliness comfort levels, check out the parents. WE VALUE THE GIFT OF LIFE: The Respect Life director of the Diocese of Ogdensburg has provided a brief description of the biological development of a new person from conception through 38 weeks. Each week in the bulletin we will notice this “new person’s” growth starting today with CONCEPTION. Hello. I am one of God’s little ones – a new person. My life started at my conception on January 22, 2011. From that first moment, God chose all the characteristics that make me one of His unique creations like: my eye color, my height, the color of my skin, my hair color and my gender. He is good and holy and has a special plan for my life. “You formed my inmost being; You knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise You, so wonderfully You made me, wonderful are Your works! (Psalm 139:13-16)

FUNERAL: A funeral was celebrated this week for Minnie Rabideau. Please remember her and her family in your prayers.

THE SIGN OF THE CROSS: For early Christians, the Sign of the Cross involved tracing small crosses on the forehead, on the lips and on the heart, as we do at Mass before the reading of the Gospel. In the 3rd century,Tertullian noted that Christians made the Sign of the Cross regularly before entering or leaving their homes, eating, bathing, even before lighting lamps. The Sign of the Cross is made on Catholics at Baptism, at the Anointing of the Sick and countless times in between. When you reverently bless yourself with the Sign of the Cross, you express belief in God the Father, in God the Son and in God the Holy Spirit from whom all blessings flow. We can sanctify modern life with this ancient gesture.
.
FLU PRECAUTIONS: The Diocese of Ogdensburg has received some inquiries about precautions in church settings against influenza and concerning the recent hepatitis incident at a Long Island parish at Christmas. As in the past, Bishop LaValley is asking all parishes of the diocese to adopt the following precautionary measures:
Parishioners should not share the sign of peace if feeling ill.
It is recommended that parishioners receive Communion in the hand. Communion on the tongue presents hygienic problems during the flu season.
