MARRIAGE TIP: “Do not return evil for evil, or insult for insult” (1 Peter 3:9). When couples argue, it’s tempting to answer a criticism with another criticism or excuse. A simple, “I’m sorry” can do a world of good. Find more Marriage Rx at www.foryourmarriage.org.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! This is the first Sunday of the new Church year. It’s also the first Sunday of the Church season of Advent. The color of the season is violet to show we’re in a time of quiet preparation for the coming of the Messiah. During Advent we hear John the Baptist telling us to repent, to change our lives for the better, and to make straight the way of the Lord.
For those of you who follow the Bible readings of the Church, our new church year (November 28,2010 to November 27, 2011) will be known as Year A.

FUNERAL: A funeral was celebrated this week for Yvonne Rivers. Please remember her and her family in your prayers.

THANKSGIVING DAY: Thanksgiving is not a feast of the Catholic Church, but the Church does provide a “Mass in Thanksgiving to God” to be celebrated on this day. President Abraham Lincoln called for the nation to observe a day of thanksgiving on the last Thursday of November.

Let us offer generous financial help in support of the service of priests, Religious and lay catechists in more than 1,150 Catholic parishes throughout Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands and remote regions of Latin America. Thank you for your support!

YEAR’S END: The new year according to the Catholic Church begins on November 28th, the first Sunday of Advent. This current Church year ends with next weekend’s special day in honor of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King. As this church year draws to a close, the Lord Jesus reminds us that even in times of trial and persecution, not a hair on our head will be harmed because of our faith and trust in God. For those of you who follow the Bible readings of the Church, our new church year (November 28,2010 to November 27, 2011) will be known as Year A.

CCHD/Black and Indian Missions: Next week we will join the other parishes in the Diocese in taking up the collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development and the Black and Indian Missions. Both of these groups have a national and a local impact. Remember, 25% of the funds collected for CCHD remain in the Diocese to assist local groups working to address the issue of poverty in our North Country communities. Each year the evangelization/religious education programs at Akwasasne receive a substantial grant from the National Office for the Black and Indian Missions.
Please be as generous as possible to this important combined collection.

THANK YOU: The Hospitality Committee would like to sincerely thank all those who provided refreshments for the Pastor Appreciation Reception this past week end and all those who attended to honor Father Deno.

PLANNING FOR DEATH IS NATURAL: Planning for death is as natural for the Christian as planning for life. As stated in 1 Timothy 5:8, if anyone does not take care of his own, and especially of his household; he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. Having a Will is good Stewardship. Take care of your family.

MARRIAGE TIP: Duing the month of November remember those who have died. Spend a moment today praying together for your relatives and friends who have passed on. Find more Marriage Rx atwww.foryourmarriage.org.

VISITING A CEMETERY DURING MONTH OF NOVEMBER: The custom of visiting the cemetery and praying for the dead can be traced to the women who returned to the tomb of Jesus Easter morning to mourn and complete the preparation of His body for burial. Then and there they discovered that He had been raised from the dead. Today, our visits to the cemetery are prompted by our love and faith. We come to remember, to mourn, to give thanks for the life our beloved shared with us, to pray for peaceful rest in death, and to strengthen our belief that one day we will be united with our beloved in Eternal Life.

PRAYER FOR VISITING THE CEMETERY
We come to this sacred place, the earthly home of our departed loved ones, where they rest in peace.

We come to this sacred place to be close to God and remember the love He has for us.

We come to this sacred place to pray for the eternal repose of their souls.

We come to this sacred place in prayer, asking for the intercession of those who are before the throne of God.

We come to this sacred place and are reminded that God is present, for always and forever.

We come to this sacred place as so many have come before us and will continue after us, as a member of God's family.
