Mission Intention for January
That the family may become more and more a place of training in charity, personal growth and the transmission of the faith.
A PRAYER FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION
Almighty and eternal God, you have revealed your glory to all nations. God of power and might, wisdom and justice, through you authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted, and judgement is decreed.
Assist with your spirit of counsel and fortitude the President of these United States, that his administration may be conducted in righteousness, and be eminently useful to your people over whom he presides.
May he encourage due respect for virtue and religion. May he execute the laws with justice and mercy. May he seek to restrain crime, vice, and immorality. Amen
SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: Some people spend their entire lives trying to "find themselves" or "find the meaning of life." Sadly, some find neither. Two of John the Baptist's followers were with him when Jesus walked by one day. "Behold, the Lamb of God," John said to them. Immediately, they wanted to be with him. Andrew introduced his brother Simon to Jesus. In this short period of time, these men found the meaning of life and themselves. By praying daily and reading the word of God, we strengthen our families and further our ability to spread the Gospel of the Lord, just as those called to Jesus' other family were able to do when they found what they were looking for.
RESPECT LIFE COLLECTION: The Respect Life Collection supports a variety of pro-life initiatives. Last year there were nineteen grant recipients. The collection provided support for:
Gabriel Project crisis-pregnancy programs in: Gouverneur, Potsdam, Brasher Falls, Massena, and Plattsburgh
The Catholic Charities Pregnant and Parenting Teen Program in Malone
Pro-Life radio, television and billboard messages in Watertown, Plattsburgh, and Lewis County
Pro-Life Fair Booths at the Clinton County and Lewis County fairs
A two-day presentation in Watertown by the founder of Elizabeth Ministry, an outreach to young families who do not have family support.
With looming legislation – The Freedom of Information Act (FOCA) on the national level and the Reproductive Health and Privacy Protection Act (RHAPP) at the state level, it is imperative that we increase our pro-life efforts to protect the most vulnerable of those among us. If FOCA and RHAPP become laws they will jeopardize 35 years of pro-life advances. Envelopes for the Respect Life Collection are your box of envelopes. It will take place on June 24-25.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: If people spent one hour per week in Eucharistic Adoration, abortion would be ended. (Bl. Mother Teresa of Calcutta). Eucharistic Adoration is held throughout the year every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 6 am to 9 pm at St. John’s Church Adoration Chapel, downstairs. Everyone is invited to spend some quiet time with Jesus anytime during these hours. For more information about spending a special hour with Jesus weekly, or becoming a substitute, please call 561-5083 or email us at Sjohnsadoration@aol.com
MARRIAGE TIP: If you must boast, boast about your spouse. It's a real boost to hear your spouse say something nice about you in front of friends. Find more Marriage Rx at:www.foryourmarriage.org
