Mission Intention for February
That the Pastors of the Church may always be docile to the action of the Holy Spirit in their teaching and in their service to God’s people.
DEACON ADAM CROW: Rev. Mr. Adam Crowe who was to be ordained a Catholic priest for this Diocese at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ogdensburg on May 25th died at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Philadelphia on Tuesday January 27. He was a parishioner of St. Raphael’s Parish in Heuvelton. Please keep Adam and his family in your prayers.
CHOWDER DINNER: The Cadyville Fire Department will hosting a “Field Day Chowder Dinner” at the Firehouse on Saturday, February 7th from noon till 6 PM. Proceeds will go to defer the cost of new dress uniforms for the members. All are welcomed.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: He who receives the Most Holy Communion receives the living Jesus Christ, whose body, soul and divinity are in this divine Sacrament...Let us clearly see in spirit the holy angels who surround the Most Holy Sacrament to adore it. (St. Francis de Sales). Eucharistic Adoration is held throughout the year every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 6 am to 9 pm at St. John’s Church Adoration Chapel, downstairs. Everyone is invited to spend some quiet time with Jesus anytime during these hours. For more information about spending a special hour with Jesus weekly, or becoming a substitute, please call 561-5083 or email us at Sjohnsadoration@aol.com
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS: Catholic school education is one of the great and generous works of the Church. Its graduates have become leaders of this country, teachers, religious men and women and business entrepreneurs. Without doubt Catholic schools have had a far-reaching impact on shaping the world. At this time some parents are making decisions to enrol their children in a Catholic school available to them. The following Catholic Schools are available to the parents of St. James. If you have an interest in giving your child a Catholic school education, go to its website, phone and visit the Catholic:
SETON ACADEMY, PK-6, 23 St. Charles Street, Plattsburgh: 561-7132, www.seton-academy.net
SETON CATHOLIC CENTRAL SCHOOL,7-12, 206 New York Road, Plattsburgh: 561-4031, www.setoncatholic.net
TAX RETURN TIME: Before you file your tax return away for the year, you might want to take a minute to determine what percentage you are giving away. Your tax return tells you not only how much income God has entrusted to you last year, but also what portion you gave away. Simply take your total charitable gross income. Move the decimal point over two places. This is the percentage you gave away last year. Are you pleased with that number? If not, make plans now to improve your giving in 2009.
MARRIAGE TIP: What words have you said in the past week that you wish you could take back? Here's a rule of thumb to monitor your speech: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it good?. Find more Marriage Rx at:www.foryourmarriage.org
THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD: Forty days after Christmas (Monday, February 2) already Jesus is presented by Joseph and Mary at the temple to fulfil the law of Moses—to do what is right. They are greeted by the old man Simeon who sees the “light of the gentiles come,” and the aged widow Anna who speaks of the “deliverance of Jerusalem.” Again, even in God’s temple Jesus is presented and accepted as God saving both Jews and gentiles. We come in procession on this Candlemas Day with specially blessed candles and lights to meet Jesus, the light of glory, on whom we are nourished in the Eucharist. Are you transparent enough for God’s glory to shine through you?
