CATHOLIC COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN: Help Us Connect the World with God’s Word! If Jesus Christ were on earth today, how would he spread his message? The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) believes Jesus would use every means available, so it makes use of media outlets to evangelize and promote gospel values. You can truly make a difference right here in our diocese through your donation to today’s Collection and assist the only Catholic University founded by our Bishops, The Catholic University of America. THE GABRIEL PROJECT: The Gabriel Project supports any woman in a crisis pregnancy that chooses life for her child. Through caring “Gabriel Angels” who are paired with expectant mothers and offer their friendship and spiritual guidance both during and after pregnancy. They offer encouragement and material help, if need be, to expectant mothers. The English word angel comes from a Greek work that means “messenger”. A biblical angel is a messenger from God. That is why the word angel is such an apt term for the Gabriel volunteer, who brings God’s blessings to the women – the “moms,” as they are called in the Project – who seek help. On Wednesday June 24th at 7:00 pm in the basement of Our Lady of Victory Church there will be a get together for all women interested in learning more about being a “Gabriel Angel” or being involved in the Gabriel Project.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: On this feast day, the Christian Community proclaims that the Eucharist is its all, its very life, the source of life that triumphs over death” (Pope Benedict XVI, Corpus Christi, 2006). Eucharistic Adoration is held throughout the year every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 6 am to 9 pm at St. John’s Church Adoration Chapel, downstairs. Everyone is invited to spend some quiet time with Jesus anytime during these hours. For more information about spending a special hour with Jesus weekly, or becoming a substitute, please call 561-5083 or email us at Sjohnsadoration@aol.com

Prayer for a New Bishop

Almighty Father,
for one hundred thirty-seven years you have sent
to the Church of Ogdensburg shepherds after your
own heart.

Send forth the Holy Spirit upon Pope Benedict,
that he might choose for us a new Bishop,
full of courage in preaching the Gospel,
wisdom in governing the Church,
and zeal in leading us in the paths of holiness.

Grant to the man you will send to us
the protection of our Lady of the Immaculate Conception,
our Mother and our Patroness.

We make this prayer through her Son,
Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.

THE NAME OF GOD: The U.S. bishops’ Committee on Divine Worship recently announced a new directive from the Vatican regarding the use of the name of God in the sacred liturgy. Specifically, the word "Yahweh" may no longer be "used or pronounced" in songs and prayers during liturgical celebrations. The decision was based on long-standing Jewish and Christian traditions of not pronouncing the divine name wherever it occurs in the biblical text. You may notice some small changes to a few songs that are sung during Mass from what is printed in your missals or hymnals. Unfortunately, at the time the directive was announced, our 2009 missals had already been printed. The 2010 missal editions will include revised versions of the songs with updated texts.
