Mission Intention for March
That the world economy be managed according to the principles of justice and equity, taking account of the real needs of people, especially the poorest.
FUNERAL: A funeral was celebrated this week for Robert St. Germain. Please remember him and his family in your prayers.
BAPTISM: Olivia LeAnne LeFevre, daughter of Christopher and Nicole (Brown) LeFevre became a member of the Catholic community through the Sacrament of Baptism on February 21, 2010
EASTER DUTY: All Catholics who have reached the age of reason must confess their serious sins in the Sacrament of Penance at least once a year. They must also receive Holy Communion at least once each year during the Easter season, which this year extends from February 21st, the First Sunday of Lent, until Trinity Sunday, May 30th.
Prayer for Bishop-elect LaValley
God, eternal Shepherd,
you have chosen your servant Terry
to watch over the your flock
and to pastor the Church of Ogdensburg.
Help him to respond wholeheartedly
to your call, “Follow me.”
Among us and for us,
may he be a faithful teacher,
a wise administrator and a holy priest.
Enrich him with the gifts and virtues of a true apostle,
for the good of your people in the North Country.
May he, and all those in his care,
show forth the living presence of Christ in the world;
and come to the joy of everlasting life
in your verdant pastures.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
AT HOME WITH OUR FAITH: The March issue of At Home with Our Faith is now available at the entrance to the church.
MARRIAGE TIP: Humor is the oil of relationships. If things are tense between you, try making a funny comment (perhaps poking fun at yourself) to lighten the situation. Find more Marriage Rx atwww.foryourmarriage.org.
MATER DEI FOUNDATION: Currently offering scholarships for Catholic School and Religious Education teachers for workshops and study, scholarships for graduating students who plan on attending a Catholic college and students who need assistance for Catholic grade schools. For further information contact Ron Romano at rcromano@verizon.net .
BISHOP ORDINATION: The Ordination and Installation of Bishop-elect Terry R. LaValley as the 14th Bishop of Ogdensburg will take place at St. Mary’s Cathedral on April 30th, 2010 at 2 p.m. The limited seating capacity of the Cathedral does not allow the Bishop-elect LaValley to invite all the people of the Diocese to his Ordination and Installation; therefore, only those who receive tickets will be admitted to the ceremony.
UNITED STATES CENSUS HELP: In March of 2010 the United States Census Bureau will be distributing questionnaires to every household in the country. All residents in the United States must be counted. A census has been taken since 1790, as mandated by our constitution to apportion seats in the House of Representatives. The Census information collected helps to determine how $400 billion annually is allocated across the country for neighborhood improvements, public health, education, and transportation.
The Glens Falls office of the US Census is recruiting residents of Clinton, Essex, Fulton, Hamilton, Saratoga, Warren, and Washington counties. Field work starts at $13/hour plus 50 cents per mile. Simply call 1-866-861-2010 to schedule an easy half-hour test. A practice test is available atwww.2010censusjobs.gov. It is important for the accuracy and cost-effectiveness of this operation to hire citizens within their own communities, rather than hiring from outside.
NORTH COUNTRY CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN:We are continuing the North Country Catholic subscription campaign. If you have not yet subscribed to our diocesan newspaper I would ask you to do so today. The paper is a source of information, evangelization and unity for all the Catholics in our diocese. Please place your subscription envelope in the collection basket or mail a check for $25 to the North Country Catholic, PO Box 326, Ogdensburg, NY, 13669. Patron subscriptions – for $35, $50, $100 or $250 - are also encouraged to allow the newspaper to maintain affordable subscription rates for all.
