Mission Intention for August: That World Youth Day in Madrid may encourage young people throughout the world to have their lives rooted and built up in Christ.
MARRIAGE TIP: Happiness is about more than laughter, but laughter heals and bonds. Laugh together today. Watch a funny TV program or movie, tell each other a silly joke, play a practical joke that won’t backfire, or reminisce about the crazy things you’ve done during your life together. Find more Marriage Rx at www.foryourmarriage.org.
WE VALUE THE GIFT OF LIFE – TWENTY-FOUR WEEKS AFTER CONCEPTION: Hello Spiritual Friends, it has been twenty-four weeks since my conception. I weigh about two pounds and I am about 9 1/4 inches long. During this week, my eyelids reopened and I developed a blink/startle reaction to loud noises. I can do summersaults using step like motions with my feet, too. Please continue to pray for my life and my mom’s well being. May the Lord bless you from Zion, all the days of your life that you may share Jerusalem’s joy and live to see your children’s children. (Psalm 128:5-6)
THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION: Monday, August 15, is the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is not a holy day of obligation in the United States this year. Mass of the Assumption will be at 8:30 AM.
MARRIAGE JUBILEE CELEBRATION: The annual Marriage Jubilee Mass to honor those couples in our Diocese who are observing significant wedding anniversaries will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ogdensburg on Sunday, September 25 at 2:30 PM. Couples celebrating jubilees and wishing to attend and to receive a certificate need to register for this event through St. James Parish before September 13th.
THE ROMAN MISSAL, THIRD EDITION, The Entrance
The Entrance Psalm or Chant is like a door opening onto the Mystery. It begins as the priest and other ministers enter the church with the people standing. The Entrance Chant sets the celebration of Mass in motion; it fosters unity; it expresses something of the feast or season being celebrated. The Entrance Chant accompanies the procession of the priest and ministers into the sanctuary and ends when the priest arrives at the chair. The choice of the Entrance Chant is determined by the General Instruction of the Roman Missal. It may be the antiphon and psalm given in one of three official liturgical books: the Roman Gradual, the Roman Missal, or the Simple Gradual. The Entrance Chant may also be an antiphon and psalm from another source, or even a suitable liturgical song. Apart from a very few exceptions, the Entrance Chants of the Mass are drawn from the Bible, usually from the Book of Psalms. It is significant that Mass opens with God’s word addressed to us. We stand at the Entrance Chant to welcome God who comes out to meet us.
