MARRIAGE TIP: Even if you’re newly married, try fantasizing about what it will be like to grow old together. As Robbie Hart sings in the “The Wedding Singer, I’ll “carry you around when your arthritis is bad…get your medicine when your tummy aches…even let ya hold the remote control.”. WE VALUE THE GIFT OF LIFE – TWENTY SIX WEEKS AFTER CONCEPTION
Dear Spiritual Friends, my life began at my conception 26 weeks ago. I have been viable for several weeks now and most recently I developed a sense of taste and smell. If you placed a sweet substance in my amniotic fluid, I would swallow more. However, if you put a bitter tasting substance in my amniotic fluid, I would swallow less. My facial expression shows my displeasure at bitter tasting things. Let those who seek my life be put to shame and disgrace. Let those who plot evil against me be turned back and confounded. (Psalm 35:4-5)

THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION: Monday, August 15, is the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is not a holy day of obligation in the United States this year. Mass of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be offered at 8:30 AM.

MARRIAGE JUBILEE CELEBRATION: The annual Marriage Jubilee Mass to honor those couples in our Diocese who are observing significant wedding anniversaries will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ogdensburg on Sunday, September 25 at 2:30 PM. Couples celebrating jubilees and wishing to attend and to receive a certificate need to register for this event through St. James Parish before September 13th.

THE ROMAN MISSAL, THIRD EDITION, The Readings from the Bible
The Bible Readings at Mass are from the Old and New Testaments and the Gospels. The Sunday Gospels roll on a three year cycle: Saint Matthew (Year A-2011), Saint Mark (Year B-2012), and Saint Luke (Year C-2013). These readings proclaim God’s great events of the past and the presence of Jesus in our midst. When God speaks he communicates himself; His life and His love. God invites us to listen and be ready to be changed by what is heard. The priest’s homily develops the message of the Bible and applies it to the life of the specific worshipping community.

REDFORD PICNIC: The 156th Annual Redford Picnic will be held Sunday, August 21, on the grounds of the Church of the Assumption of Mary School. Features include full meals of either roast beef or ham from noon to 6 pm, and rides on the famous merry-go-round. Raffles for $5000. afghans, handmade baskets, etc.
