Christmas Day, December 25

CHRISTMAS HYMNS WITH CHILDREN: The children in Grades 1-5 who participate in the Religious Education Program on Thursdays will be invited to sing Christmas hymns before the 4:00 Mass on Christmas Eve. Practice will begin at the Parish Center on Thursday December 11th after the religion class and continue on December 18th. Parents whose child will participate are asked to pick up their child at 4:00 PM on those days.
FUND RAISING NORMS: At this time of the year many of you may be receiving requests to give money to various groups that appear to be Church related. Beware. In most cases DO NOT give to groups that send you letters with beautiful Mass cards or medals. Most of the money you give will go directly to the fund raisers and never for a religious purpose.
CATHOLIC CALENDARS: Calendars for 2009 indicating the special holy days and saints of the Catholic Church are available for your home or workplace. This year they are on the theme of Christian stewardship.
CONGRATULATIONS: According to a report from the Bishop’s Fund Office this week, the St. James Parishioners contributed $7,245 to this year’s Bishop’s Fund campaign. This was above our goal of $7,223. Your generosity is outstanding. The current total for all the parishes of the Diocese is $1,065,057 or 88.75% of the goal.
SETON CHRISTMAS DINNER: The Annual Seton Christmas Dinner is being held Sunday December 14th from Noon to 5 PM at Seton Catholic High School (206 New York Rd). A traditional turkey dinner will be served with new items such as macaroni & cheese and apple crisp. Adults $9, Seniors (55+) $8, Children 12-5 yrs $5, Under 5 are FREE and take outs $9. All seating is handicap accessible. Purchase a chance to win a home made quilt or $1,000 CASH. Do some shopping at our Silent Auction, Cash & Carry, "Gift from Home" or wreath sale. The Seton students are in the giving spirit and will sponsor a toy drive and food drive for local agencies. Come and enjoy great food, friendly faces and entertainment by the Singing Santa. All proceeds benefits Seton Academy & Seton Catholic.
EXTEND AN INVITATION: Advent is a time of hope. Someone is hopeful in becoming Catholic – waiting for an invitation. A Catholic who has fallen away from practicing the faith is hopeful someone will extend a welcome to “Come Home.” Is God calling you to reach out to the hopeful? Remember, all are welcome in Christ. An informative web site for a seeking or returning person is www.OnceCatholic.org.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: You are with us, you, the king of the whole world, though apparently hidden, helpless, forgotten, and ignored at this Advent season. (Fr. Hugo Rahner, S.J.). Eucharistic Adoration is held throughout the year every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 6 am to 9 pm at St. John’s Church Adoration Chapel, downstairs. Everyone is invited to spend some quiet time with Jesus anytime during these hours. For more information about spending a special hour with Jesus weekly, or becoming a substitute, please call 561-5083 or email us at Sjohnsadoration@aol.com
MARRIAGE TIP: Do you need to hold your tongue more so your spouse can speak, speak up more so your spouse knows what you're feeling, or is everything just right? Find more Marriage Rx at: www.foryourmarriage.org
CHRISTMAS FLOWERS COLLECTION: As in the past you will find envelopes at the entrance of the church for donations for Christmas flowers and decorations. Place the envelopes with your contribution in the collection basket. Your generous contribution is very much appreciated.
