CONFIRMATION: This week Bishop Robert Cunningham, recently appointed Bishop of Syracuse, is our guest as he celebrates Mass with us and administers the sacrament of Confirmation to 17 young persons of our parish. Confirmation is one of the Sacraments of Initiation by which young persons become young adults in the Catholic Church. Along with the Holy Eucharist Confirmation builds on what was begun at Baptism and nourished in Holy Eucharist. It completes the process of initiation into the Catholic Church. At Confirmation, at the invitation of the Bishop, the young adult renews the promises made at Baptism by parents and godparents. This is called confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong. Those confirmed this week have participated in 2 years of religion classes and spiritual preparation. Each of them have chosen a Sponsor who has assisted them during these 2 years of preparation. They have also completed hours of public or community service. We thank them for their dedication to this preparation. We also thank their parents and sponsors, and Mr.Robert Robare who has assisted in this program. Those confirmed are:

CATHOLIC DIGEST: The Catholic Digest, which is a national Catholic publication has sent you copies of its May publication. It features a variety of articles of interest to Catholics and those interested in the Catholic Church. This issue of the Catholic Digest has a short story on St. James the Lesser (meaning younger) on page 88 celebrated on May 3rd. Jesus had two Apostles by the name of James. The other St. James has a feast celebrated on July 26th. While at times our parish has been called St. James Minor, the correct name under which it was incorporated in 1860 is St. James.
