Mission Intention for August

CATHOLIC CHARITIES THANKS YOU: The 2009 Catholic Charities Mother’s Day Appeal was a great success! Because of your generosity and compassion for our brothers and sisters in need the goal of $175,000 was not only reached but surpassed. As of July 23, the total amount received is $177,138.88. Remember, 92% of every dollar goes directly to the programs and services for those in need. GETAWAY: Looking for a fun weekend, surrounded by others of like faith? Are you a Young Adult (over 18 and out of high school)? Consider joining others on a Mountain – Climb Weekend. The weekend of Sept. 4th – 6th. “Base Camp” will be Guggenheim Lodge in Saranac Lake. Beds, food, activity and social time – provided and covered by a suggested donation of $65.00. Arrival is Friday evening (Sept. 4th) through Sunday (Sept. 6th @ Noon). FALL RETREAT: Come join us for a Young Adult Retreat Sept. 18th – 20th at the Guggenheim Center on Lower Saranac lake. A suggested contribution of $75.00 would go toward covering cost. Food and lodging provided from Friday evening (6-8pm) through Sunday @ 12 Noon. ARE YOU BEING CALLED TO LAY MINISTRY? Are you open to the call to serve in parish ministry? Consider joining the hundreds of other Commissioned Lay Ministers who have responded to the call by training through Formation for Ministry. For a two year period, candidates attend weekly classes. Each course is once a week for 8 weeks as follows:

* New Testament * Sacraments
* Church * Moral Theology
* Spirituality * Social Justice
Registration for Formation for Ministry 2009-2011 is still available. If you are interested speak with your pastor about applying to the Formation for Ministry program for 2009-2011. Classes will be held in Altona.

MARRIAGE JUBILEE: The Diocese has announced that they will hold the annual Marriage Jubilee mass this year on September 20th at 2:30 pm at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg. This event is a wonderful opportunity for those couples who are newly married to come together and celebrate with couples who have truly lived the sacrament of marriage. All couples are welcome. Couples celebrating jubilees and wishing to receive a certificate need to register for this event through the parish before September 8th.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: If we really love the good God, we will find it a joy and happiness to spend some time near him, to adore him, and keep company with so good a frienD, (St. John Vianney). Eucharistic Adoration is held throughout the year every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 6 am to 9 pm at St. John’s Church Adoration Chapel, downstairs. Everyone is invited to spend some quiet time with Jesus anytime during these hours. ASSUMPTION OF MARY: The feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (August 15) is not a Holy Day of obligation this year since it falls on Saturday.

After: We give Thee thanks for all Thy benefits, O Almighty God, who livest and reignest world without end. Amen. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
