Mission Intention for May
FOR CHRISTIANS IN THE WORLD: Strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit may they build a world of peace and justice.
CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS APPEAL: Today’s second collection is for the Catholic Home Missions Appeal. This Appeal supports the home missions – places right here in the United States where the Catholic Church struggles just to keep parishes open and to educate children in the faith. Some dioceses are terribly short of priests, sisters, and the money needed to run parishes. For example, there are only 70 priests in the whole state of Utah, 57 in Idaho, and 45 in Wyoming. The Catholic Home Missions Appeal helps build community within the Church and works for the common good of Catholics in the United States. Please give generously to help your fellow Catholics here in America.
NOTICE TO PARENTS OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION STUDENTS: The end of the Religious Education Program for this year will be celebrated with a Mass at St. James Church on Thursday, May 4th at 2:45. Students will be dropped off as usual at the St. James Parish Center. After a short meeting with their teachers they will come to the Church for Mass. All parents and others are encourage to participate in this Mass if at all possible. Parents are advised to pick up their child at the St. James Church on Thursday, May 4th. Many, many thanks to all parents who have allowed their child to participate in the parish religious education program this year. Fifty-five (55) students in Grades 1-6 have participated in this program. Registration for 2006-07 will take place in August. Summer, however, should not be a time to slack off from doing your part as a parent in the religious education of your child. Several web sites are available to assist you in this responsibility. Each of them have special sections for parents, and sections of activities for children at every grade level. You will be very surprised to find out how useful they are to you and your child. WITNESSES: The apostles testified to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, even Thomas, the doubter. This witness is recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, Son of God. Tradition is the handing on of this firsthand witness of those who saw from the beginning till each of us now. Happy and blessed are those who have not seen, yet believe. Our faith is based on witnesses. We cry with Thomas, My Lord and my God! May the Lord strengthen us and give us his peace. Peace be with you!
