Bulletin for the week of October 17, 2010

Mission Intention for October
That Catholic universities may be places where it is possible to experience the harmonious unity that exists between faith and reason in the light of the Gospel.

WORLD MISSIONS :United with the Catholics of the world at the Table of the Lord, we recommit ourselves to our vocation, through Baptism, to be missionaries. Our prayers and Eucharistic celebration next Sunday are directed in a special way toward our brothers and sisters throughout the world who are waiting to hear the joyous “Good News” of Jesus. Our offerings, through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, will support the work and witness of those who selflessly give up all for the sake of our Lord and His Gospel — the local priests, Religious, and lay catechists who daily provide loving service to the poor and suffering of the Developing World.

PRIESTHOOD: October 31st is "Priesthood Sunday." As usual, we will be showing our appreiation for our pastor. Please join us at our Parish Center after the 10:00 o'clock Mass for a continental breakfast to honor Father Deno. Please mark your calendar.

HOLY DAYS OF OBLIGATION: Catholics in the United States have received permission to waive the requirement for Catholics to attend Mass on certain Holy Days of Obligation, when those Holy Days fall on either Saturday or Monday. All Saints Day is a Holy Day of Obligation. However, when it falls on a Saturday or a Monday, as it does this year, Catholics are not required attend Mass. Even in those years when we aren't required to attend, celebrating All Saints Day is a wonderful way to honor the saints, who constantly intercede with God for us. The Ascension of our Lord (40 days after Easter), Immaculate Conception (December 8th), and Christmas (December 25th) are always holydays of obligation no matter on what day of the week they fall.

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING: According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Natural Family Planning respects both the life-giving and love-giving meanings of married love; conforms to the moral law; and respects the bodies of spouses. The Diocesan NFP Office is offering a series of Natural Family Planning classes at the Newman Center in Plattsburgh beginning Saturday, October 23, at 1:30 P.M. The 3-class learner-centered format educates couples to observe and interpret the physical signs of fertility to postpone conception or to achieve pregnancy. Cost for the series is $35, which covers all materials. Preregistration is required. To learn more, please contact the NFP Office at (518)483-0459, or emailapietropaoli@dioogdensburg.org.

PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT SCHOOLS: Recently Sister Mary Helen Hermann, Principal of Seton Academy sent information regarding some stores that help customers give financial help to schools. Purchasing participating products allows you to earn money for schools by indicating the name of the school, e.g.. Seton Academy. Stores and programs are: Hannaford Helps Schools ;Targets—Take Charge of Education ; Price Chopper; Box Tops for Education; Campbell’s Soup Labels; Swanson’s Labels .

MARRIAGE TIP: Extroverts often talk in order to think while introverts process information internally and need time to think before talking. If you are an extrovert and your spouse isn’t, be sensitive. Leave time for silence or agree that you will both jot down a few thoughts before you start talking.
