SAINT PAUL - DID YOU KNOW....
When the king of Damascus tried to kill him, St. Paul’s friends had him climb into a basket, then they lowered him from the window in the city walls to safety.
St. Paul studied with a prominent rabbi, Gamaliel, in Jerusalem when he was a teenager.
St. Paul had at least one sister who lived in Jersalem. When Paul’s enemies planned to ambush and murder him, his sister’s son warned him and the Roman authorities.
St. Paul’s first convert was Lydia, a business woman who sold purple cloth.
St. Paul is represented by a sword. Around 67 AD, as a Roman citizen, Paul could not be crucified nor stoned, but rather was accorded the “honor” of beheading by a sword.
St. Paul wrote 13 letters to communities or individuals. These are in the Bible. They make up one-third of the New Testament.
PRAYER FOR THE YEAR OF ST. PAUL
JUNE 28, 2008-JUNE 29, 2009
Lord God, You filled the Apostle Paul with Your spirit, and by his witness and words the Gospel spread. This year we ask that You inspire men and women in the Diocese of Ogdensburg and St. James Parish -- especially those discerning vocations to the priesthood and religioius life -- to hear Your Word and spread Your Gospel. Like St. Paul, let us not be afraid. Like St. Paul, let us proclaim Christ crucified. Like St. Paul, if it be Your will, let us pour out our lives for the sake of Jesus and His Church. We ask this through the same Christ our Lord. Amen
